Poster/Advertisement

Lesson for Today & Monday: February 2 & 5, 2024

You get to be creative and have fun by creating a poster that promotes a business that you fully control.  Your poster will be worth 50 daily points and needs to include most of the elements covered during the "Follow the Leader" activity we did in November.   You will have approximately two days to complete this project using class time only!  It will be due on Wednesday, February 7.

For BUSINESS UNIT:
Think of the business that you have created.  It could have been a retail store (Shopko, ACE Hardware, etc.), a food service (Pizza Hut, Millstone, etc.), a radio or TV station (KMSD, KELO-Land, etc.), an insurance company, or any other business you could have thought of.  This business MUST BE an original idea by YOU (you are not allowed to create a poster on an already-established business).  This is YOUR business!  You name it.  You create the slogan and it must be included on the poster somewhere.  You decide hours, inventory, prices, and specials.  It's all on you!  Be creative and have fun selling whatever you like!

***ELEMENTS (keep track of how many you use on your own): at least one word using WordArt or Supalogo.com; at least one line or arrow (Insert>>>Shapes); at least one Shape (not including a line or arrow); at least one picture (no more than five); a border around at least one picture; page border; border only around text; text box; table (remember, you are allowed to make the borders of your table invisible and you could make it as small as a 2X2); background color or design (definitely do this LAST!!)

If you want to earn a good grade, make sure of the following: no spelling errors, good spacing/no clutter, a definite color scheme, easy-to-read, proper information, and plenty of creativity (make things "glow" or pop out); focus toward the middle of the poster; also, don't forget to add your SLOGAN to the poster

The posters should be easy to understand.  They must be original and include correct English.  Avoid clutter and putting too much onto the poster.  To avoid frustration, keep this as simple as possible.  Take PRIDE in what you do.  Most importantly, have fun creating!

If you do not finish the poster and have worked hard as a class, I will allow you more time in class to finish.  I will have to ask the substitute teacher about the effort put forth overall.

If you are having a problem figuring something out, run it by a classmate, figure it out yourself (there is always a way), or try something else.

Remember:

2013---Two posters (a creative one and the other on a staff member) will be due on Thursday at the end of class.  You will be allowed to work on this during class time only; use your time wisely.  The two posters will be worth a total of 50 points and they need to include all elements that were covered in class (October 28-present).  You have been given time to brainstorm, plan, and experiment with all elements needed for the assignment (Follow the Leader).
2012---A business poster will be due on Wednesday, October 31, at the beginning of class.  You will be allowed to work on this during class time only; use your time wisely.  It will be worth 30 daily points and needs to include all elements that have been covered in class (October 23-present).  You'll be given time to brainstorm, plan, and experiment with all elements needed for this assignment.

Remember, you are promoting your chosen business.  Anyone who looks at your poster will want to give your business business (yes, that makes sense).  You may use either portrait or landscape orientation.  Do seven of the nine elements below to earn a "B."  For an "A," you must use eight or all nine of the instructions. Your name must be somewhere on the front of the poster inside of a text box (first and last name; cannot be handwritten; font size smaller than 12-point).

You will make a second poster that is due on November 2.  Your second poster will be a poster promoting one of the CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT!  There is to be nothing negative on the poster; all pictures and text must be positive.  So, choose the candidate you would vote for, do some research on what he stands for/supports/believes, and make the best election poster possible.
