25 points    Racism Paper   25 points
(Segregation Paper)

This writing is worth 25 points.  I have high expectations for each of you.  I want to read an informative, well-written paper.

You will need a total of three paragraphs.  In paragraph form, explain each of the following topics to the best of your ability:

A) Write what you know about racism and/or segregation.  You may want to list examples.  Use the Internet and/or dictionary if you wish.

B) Summarize the plot (what happens) of the story, "Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored".  You should use five to seven sentences.  I used to ask my fourth graders to explain what happened in the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the story.  This usually takes about five to seven sentences to explain.

C) Write your reaction (feelings) to the story (Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored).  Tell why you felt the way you did while you read the story and/or after you finished it.  You may want to discuss some of the following questions in your paragraph:
     *Who should be kicked out?
*What could/would you have done if you had been there?
*What if you had been in the audience (as either race)?
*How would you have felt to be the one kicked out?
*Have you ever been treated this unfairly?

Remember, write one paragraph for EACH of the letters above (A, B, C).  Your paper should be no longer than one page.  You are graded on your effort, English skills, and accuracy (correct information).  You will earn two points, not counted as extra credit, if you submit a typed copy.  Have a classmate or two proofread your paper.  This is due when your teacher told you it would be due.

REMINDER:  Treat others as you want to be treated!
